Computational Life Science

Luis Firl

I am interested in creating mechanistic models of biological systems and combining them with machine learning to understand complex biophysical dynamics.

Research

Connecting biological mechanisms and machine learning.

My background in the life sciences forms the foundation for my current interest in the mechanistic modeling of biological systems. I aim to develop models that incorporate biophysical properties and governing principles while estimating biologically meaningful parameters to accurately capture the dynamics of biological systems. As a next step in my research, I plan to explore how machine learning can be integrated to train the mechanistic models. Ultimately, these models could help reveal disease mechanisms, identify promising therapeutic targets, and support the development of more effective treatments for diseases such as cancer.
